A huge benefit is that this area is not "touristy" and prices on everything are reasonable and affordable. Did we mention Dolphin watching?!

A collection of 150 superbly restored aircraft representing the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Aviation can be seen at the National Museum of Naval Aviation. With an average high temperature of 77°, the area is also known for its moderate climate, making almost anything possible. Sports enthusiasts have their choice of activities ranging from 5-K runs and marathons to golfing and fishing to parasailing and scuba diving. National and State Parks also provide opportunities for camping, swimming, boating and hiking. Plus, 52 miles of unspoiled white sand guarded by the remains of Fort Pickens and Fort McRee offer the sun worshiper plenty of space to walk the pristine shoreline or simply relax with a great book and a cool beverage. Extraordinary shopping is always available as are dining options where you can sample the Cajun specialties, Southern barbeque or fresh seafood. From mullet-tossing to wine-tasting, Greyhound racing to Five Flags Speedway, there is endless fun to be had at this beautiful coastal paradise.

Drive a few minutes to the  Naval Live Oaks Area , located on U. S. 98.  There are 9 Santa Rosa Sound nature trails of various lengths (over 7.5 miles of trails) and a Visitor Center with a bookstore, exhibits, and nature and history videos
Drive a few minutes to nearby Pensacola Beach to see Fort Pickens, the largest of four forts built to defend Pensacola Bay 
Drive 16 mi (20 min) to Fort Walton Beach for the  Gulfarium  – see native species and animal performances​

Drive 34.77 mi (56 min) to near Penasacola to the  National Museum of Aviation , one of the top 10 tourist attractions in the state, exploring flight from the birth of aviation to the present and on into its future
Drive 32 mi (44 min) to the  Blackwater River State Park  –  canoe  or kayak, or enjoy boardwalk nature trails and maybe spy an alligator.
